Longford Town came from behind to snatch a 1-1 draw with Kilkenny City at Strokestown Road on Saturday night and consolidated their second place in the First Division table.

In a terrific game, Kilkenny led from Jonathan Prizeman's 21st minute goal when he shot first time past Stephen O'Brien in the Longford goal from Brian Jordan's long throw-in.

Longford controlled the second half and deservedly equalised in the 68th minute when Stephen Kelly sidefooted home after Robbie Coyle crossed from the left.

Shay Zellor thought he had won the match for Longford two minutes into stoppage time, but his goal was ruled out for offside.

Dundalk continued their revival, despite missing their third successive penalty of the season, with a 1-0 defeat of bottom of the table Athlone Town at Oriel Park.

Brian Morrisroe had his 11th minute penalty turned round a post by Athlone goalkeeper Gary Connaughton.

David Ward provided the only goal of the game in the 67th minute when he was left totally unmarked to shoot home John Whyte's cross.

Brian Kerr faces a potential goalkeeping headache prior to this week's under-18 friendlies with Germany.

Both Daniel Connor of Peterborough United and Tranmere Rovers' Joe Murphy have pulled out of the squad through injury.

Kerr had called in Gerry Doherty of Derby County and Cork City's Dave Madden, but both of them have subsequently suffered knocks leaving Kerr with Wesdie Abdelaziz as his only goalkeeper.

Abelaziz of Haarlem will start tomorrow night's first match in Buckley Park, Kilkenny with Kerr hoping that Doherty may be recovered in time for the second game at Richmond Park on Thursday night.
