TODAY'S RACING: Jardines Lookout is napped to get his season off to the best possible start in the Group Two Merewood Homes Yorkshire Cup at York today.
The Alan Jarvis-trained gelding has already demonstrated his liking for the Knavesmire track and would have been a course and distance winner at three had he not been disqualified after landing the Melrose Stakes.
The son of Fourstars Allstar turned in some good performances last season but being a rather spare type, he always looked as if he would strengthen up with another year under his belt.
Jarvis sends this horse here for his seasonal debut, repeating his start to the last campaign when he finished nearly 10 lengths behind winner Marienbard but he progressed greatly from that run.
He went on to finish a good third to Royal Rebel in the Ascot Gold Cup, where he stayed on gamely to finish five lengths behind the winner and second-placed Persian Punch.
A disappointing run in the Goodwood Cup followed but he showed a real flash of his ability when bouncing back to form with a good second to his old adversary, Persian Punch, in the Lonsdale Stakes on the Knavesmire.
Jardines Lookout's final run of last season was in the Group Three Doncaster Cup when he failed to capitalise on his promising performances by trailing in fifth behind the lightly-weighted Alleluia.
Misraah looked to be a good performer in the making last season and he can make a successful seasonal debut in the Duke of York Stakes. A good win the Porcelanosa Sprint Stakes at Sandown was followed by an impressive four and a half length third place behind champion sprinter Mozart in the July Cup.
His final two runs of the season were not exactly inspiring - finishing fourth and fifth behind Atavus at Ascot and Newbury respectively - but both races were over seven furlongs. The step back down to the shorter distances should suit the son of Lure.
