Hurling/ Walsh Cup:Kilkenny 0-16, Meath 0-10: Despite having to play with a man less than their opponents for 21 minutes of the second period, an understrength Kilkenny side still advanced to the Walsh Cup final with considerable ease against Meath in Navan yesterday.
Brian McEvoy was sent off for the visitors after 39 minutes and although Meath immediately cut the deficit to three points (0-7 to 0-10), they were twice as far behind when Anton O'Neill was red carded, for a second caution, after an hour.
With McEvoy, Philip Larkin, Michael Kavanagh and Noel Hickey figuring in the Kilkenny line up, it was fringe player Derek Lyng who caught the eye.
Iin the opening period Lyng sent over four points which boosted his team to a 0-10 to 0-4 interval advantage.
