Adrian Maguire remains optimistic of a return to action on St Stephen's Day Day, the jockey revealed yesterday. The Meathman fractured the radius of his right arm in a nasty fall from Mulligan at the second last fence in last Saturday's Tingle Creek Trophy at Sandown.
And the following day specialist Dr Michael Foy gave Maguire a 50-50 chance of being fit to ride at Kempton.
Maguire, currently visiting his father, said yesterday morning: "The arm feels pretty good. It's improving every day and I'm hoping to be back for Boxing Day.
"I'll be back in England to see Michael Foy in Swindon on Monday week. He'll have a look at the arm and take some more X-rays."
If Maguire is back in the saddle at Kempton Park's Christmas meeting he will be on some quality horses, with the likes of Barton Bank, Zaralaska and Sanmartino some of his choice mounts for his boss David Nicholson.
He is particularly looking forward to partnering Barton Bank in the Pertemps King George VI Chase. Maguire won the race on the horse in 1993 and would have followed up 12 months later but for capsizing at the last.
