Galway Utd - 0 St Patricks A - 1 A headed goal by Darragh Maguire in extra-time sent St Patrick's Athletic into the next round after a pulsating FAI Cup second-round replay at Terryland Park last night.
Galway United dominated the first half in terms of possession and had six corners to none for the visitors. Their first came after just two minutes, forced by their best performer, Tony Folan. Three minutes later Alan Murphy took a free-kick 25 yards from goal which Séamus Kelly, the visitors' goalkeeper, did well to tip away for a corner.
On 13 minutes United's John Brennan was pounced on by the inrushing Gerard McCarthy, who struck the ball from just inside the Galway area. His effort just glanced off the left-hand post.
After 35 minutes St Patrick's' best player Martin Russell had a free kick which Galway goalkeeper Robert Forde found difficult to deal with. However Nigel Keady was on hand to avert danger.
Galway dominated the final minutes of the first half as they forced a series of corners, but they failed to score.
A minute into the second half Russell floated a free-kick from the left but Maguire's free header went wide.
St Patrick's had their first corner on 65 minutes, taken by Paul Donnelly, but it failed to threaten Forde's goal.
The Galway goalkeeper made two marvellous saves in the dying stages of normal time, the first in the 85th minute when McCarthy struck from 16 yards. Four minutes later he made another wonderful stop, this time from Russell.
However, St Patrick's struck for the winner in extra-time, when Maguire headed home a Russell free-kick.

Derry City v Longford Town (Brandywell, tonight, 7.45)
DAVID KELLY takes his Brandywell bow having completed the signing of his one-year contract on Tuesday. The much-travelled 36-year-old ex-Republic of Ireland international turned down several offers, including an approach from Shelbourne, to join Derry. Midfielder Eamonn Doherty returns, leaving Tommy McCallion (ankle) Derry's only injury absentee.
Having lost all three league ties, Derry are desperate for a win. "We deserve to be bottom after the first defeat in Drogheda," said manager Kevin Mahon. "We were a little unfortunate in the two subsequent games. We feel we've corrected our earlier mistakes and are hopeful of getting all three points this week."
Longford bring their new signing, striker Sini Savic, a German-born Yugoslav, into their squad. Barry Ferguson (hamstring) and Vinny Perth (ankle) are carrying knocks but should be fit. Manager Alan Matthews has lost Fergal Coleman, who has taken up a teaching post in Thailand, Dave Whittle is on loan to Kilkenny City and Brian Shelley has left for Carlisle United.
