She has already proved her worth on the Tipperary senior inter-county Camogie team, but now Ann Maher is proving she is a dab hand at golf too.
Although the 24-year-old is only playing the game of golf a mere seven months she has just walked away with victory in Ruth Byrne's Lady Captain's Prize at Dungarvan golf club.
Playing off a handicap of 36, the former Tipperary star brought in a score of 62 nett for the first 18.
Few thought that score would be bettered the next day, but Maher had other ideas and brought in an even better score of 58 in the second 18 to easily secure victory.
Her winning total of 120 was a massive 18 shots ahead of second placed Margaret O'Sullivan, playing off 33, who claimed runners-up spot with 138, a shot ahead of 14 handicapper Michelle Mernin on 139. The gross prize went to Irene Howell (5) on 160.
But for Maher it was a remarkable victory in what was her first ever Captain's Prize. And not surprisingly her handicap has dramatically dropped following her two great rounds. She has shaved an impressive 12 shots off her handicap and is now playing of 24.
