UCD 2 Bray Wanderers 2:ALAN MAHON earned UCD a deserved point with a perfectly executed late penalty.
Having led at the break from Pat McWalter's header, UCD trailed to second-half goals from Derek Foran and Gavin Whelan before right-back Mahon calmly sent Alan Gough the wrong way from the spot on 84 minutes after Foran had taken down Shane Fitzgerald.
Having peppered the Bray goal with three clear openings, UCD were full value for their lead when it arrived on 37 minutes. The marking in the visitors' defence was negligible as McWalter rose to head home Ian Bermingham's precise delivery from a free-kick out near the left touchline.
Earlier, Ronan Finn had drilled wide after latching onto Alan Cawley's misdirected header before Alan McNally planted a header from Mahon's free-kick wide on 24 minutes as UCD maintained the pressure.
Gough, at 37, showed two minutes later he has lost little agility to tip over after Tommy Purcell had skipped past a defender to shoot for goal.
Purcell should have doubled UCD's lead a minute before the break, but shot wide after great work down the left by McWalter.
In was a miss they would rue as Bray were much better in the second half and levelled on the hour mark. Kevin Doherty flicked on Cawley's pacy corner and fellow central defender Foran shot low to the net at the back post.
Whelan then powered home Cawley's corner to put Bray in front on 77 minutes before Mahon earned UCD a point.
