Lancôme Irish Ladies Close Championship: Due to the torrential rain and gales, yesterday's final of the Lancôme Irish Ladies Close Championship was postponed to today at the European Club.

Similar conditions hampered play in the morning's semi-finals, but the decision was taken once the weather further deteriorated.

In the semi-finals, Tricia Mangan of Ennis was always ahead. She turned 2 up, but Co Louth's Deirdre Smith won the 10th to narrow the gap, only to three-putt 15 to go two down.

Smith's birdie from 22 feet on the 17th brought the tie to the home green, but her approach there found the water.

Martina Gillen's passage to the final was more comfortable, as 18-year-old Girls champion Danielle McVeigh of Royal Co Down Ladies found the going tough in the conditions and went down 3 and 2.
