Basketball Schoolboys' All-Ireland finals: Marian College captured the under-19 B boys final at the ESB Arena, Tallaght, yesterday as captain Conor Meaney continued a fine family tradition. Meaney's brothers, Kevin and Niall, represented the college in the 1990s before graduating to the Superleague ranks.
Yesterday, Marian took on a CBC, Cork, coached by Neptune's New Zealander Dave Langrell. Langrell, nursing an ankle injury he picked up in the ESB Cup final against Demons, saw his team trail 23-20 at half-time. But with CBC unable to convert their chances, Marian turned it on in the final quarter with a 27-point return. Ciarán Dunne took the MVP award.
St Patrick's, Shannon, managed by former Clare hurling All Star, Colm Honan, defeated St Nathy's, Ballaghadereen, in the under-19C final. Ngomi Ditima was voted MVP as his 12 points helped Shannon to a 66-52 win.
In the under-16B final a storming final quarter saw Ard Scoil Rís triumph 50-33 over St Patrick's Knock, Belfast.
