Marist suffered further when full forward Mark Fox was sent off for a second bookable offence before half-time.
Conor Dockery received a straight red card nine minutes into the second half and the Athlone side finished with 13 men. By then, Joe Kenny had scored a second Mullingar goal after a one-two with Ciarán Curley, and the away side were out of sight.
