One of the men who helped Sligo land their first Connacht football championship title in 32 years has been banned for almost a year for an incident involving a leading referee.

Adrian Marren, who came on in the second half of the Connacht final win over Galway, has been suspended for 48 weeks for a Category 5 offence, which involves physically handling a referee.

The incident took place during the clash of Marren's club, Curry, and Sligo town club St John's in the quarter-final of the Sligo senior championship last month.

Referee Michael Duffy reported he had been interfered with by Marren.
