Leeds United manager Dave O'Leary and goalkeeper Nigel Martyn go into tonight's Champions League qualifier against TSV 1860 Munich claiming that referee Costas Kapitanis "ruined" the first game.

Kapitanis had players and managers from both sides seething as he dismissed TSV's Ned Zelic during the first half, followed in the second period by United's Olivier Dacourt and Eirik Bakke.

United hold a 2-1 lead but O'Leary added: "UEFA know they had a person there, in the nicest possible way, who was totally out of his league."

Should Leeds fail to reach the group stages of the Champions League - which is worth up to £10 million - then Kapitanis will almost certainly be blamed.

But Martyn feels his United team-mates, despite the depleted squad, have it within their power and ability to join football's money-laden elite.

"The referee did spoil the game and we had two sent off, which was harsh, but we've just got to get on with it," said England international Martyn.

"Without two midfielders of the quality of Olivier and Eirik it makes things difficult for us tomorrow night. They are going to be missed," he said.

Matthew Jones looks certain to bolster the midfield having "kicked a ball for the first time in two months," according to O'Leary in yesterday's training session after being sidelined with shin splints.

But O'Leary is still without Harry Kewell, Jason Wilcox and Stephen McPhail.
