Castletown-Mellows 1-10 Sarsfields 1-7:CASTLETOWN ATTACKER Anthony Masterson picked himself off the treatment table to inspire his side to a three point victory over Sarsfields in the Wexford SFC semi-final at Wexford Park yesterday afternoon.
The reigning champions had opened impressively leading 0-4 to 0-0 after just 11 minutes through Tomás Sheehy, George Sunderland, Conor Carty and Andy Merrigan. Pointed frees from Philly Cullen (two) and Paul Murphy hauled Sarsfields back into the game. Castletown had forward Kevin Morris sent off, but Masterson’s goal helped give his side a 1-6 to 0-3 interval lead.
The Wexford town side eventually found the target through Murphy and Cullen’s pointed frees, while Cullen kicked his side’s first point from play after 41 minutes leaving it 1-6 to 0-6.
But Castletown regrouped adding points through Jody O’Shaughnessy and Brendan Halpin, while the Sars goal from Tomás Campbell arrived too late to affect the result.
