New Mayo manager John Maughan has confirmed that former county player Liam McHale will be one of his selectors.

Maughan's return to the helm comes only three years since he stepped down after four seasons in charge. In the meantime he managed Fermanagh last year.

He has also said that he will continue to coach county champions Crossmolina as long as they remain in the club championships.

Like John O'Mahony in Galway and Tommy Lyons in Dublin, Maughan also takes charge of the county under-21 side.

Maughan's last spell with Mayo brought three Connacht titles and an agonisingly close tilt at an All-Ireland, which culminated in a one-point defeat by Meath in the 1996 final replay. A year later Mayo lost again, this time more decisively to Kerry.

McHale was one of the most influential figures in 1996 and has played in three All-Ireland finals for the county. An international basketballer, he brings a wealth of experience.

The remaining selectors will be announced in the near future.
