Moravia Silesia Open:Four dropped shots in as many holes on the back nine cost Gareth Maybin dearly at the Moravia Silesia Open after the Ulsterman had manoeuvred himself into contention to challenge eventual winner Oskar Henningsson of Sweden.
Maybin followed up an opening round of 73 with a 66 and a 68 and looked on course for something similar today when four under through 13 holes. That had him in the lead with the Swede, who was also in search of his maiden Tour win, but a bogey at the next and a double at the 15th scuppered his chances.
He picked up a shot at the next but dropped two more to fall back to level par for the day and a share of seventh on nine under.
Henningsson won by two from England’s Sam Little and Steve Webster with his second consecutive 67 secured despite a bogey at the last being the only blemish on his card.
Henningsson, three behind Webster overnight, earned just over €333,330 - after going into the tournament 154th on the “Race to Dubai” money list with €102,000.
A week after finishing fourth at the SAS Masters in his home country he went to the turn in 32, picked up further shots at the 13th and 16th, but then had a nervous wait after bogeying the last.
His challengers all made too many mistakes, however. Webster fell back with a poor front nine and Spaniard Ignacio Garrido, having taken over at the top, started the inward half with three successive bogeys.
Course designer Miguel Angel Jimenez came joint 17th.
