Moravia Silesia Open:Ulsterman Gareth Maybin shot a 66 in the second round of the Moravia Silesia Open in the Czech Republic today to move to within three shots of the clubhouse lead set by England's Graeme Storm. A back-nine 32 swept Storm into the early second-round lead. After opening with a 68 to be three behind Argentinian Tano Goya, 31-year-old Storm birdied the 11th, 13th, 14th and 16th to reach eight-under-par.
Compatriot Steve Webster joined him soon after courtesy of a 70, while Dutchman Robert-Jan Derksen and Spain's Ignacio Garrido are among a chasing pack on seven under.
Maybin and Simon Dyson were the only two to card a 66 but while the Englishman's efforts only brought him to two under, the Irishman moved to five under, improving dramatically on yesterday’s one-over-par 73.
Birdies at the first, fourth and fifth set him on his way nicely, before a bogey at the seventh was quickly forgotten, thanks to an eagle on the par four eighth.
The outward 32 was followed by an inward 34, after birdies at the 11th, 13th and 14th overshadowed a dropped shot on the 12th.
Damien McGrane carded a 71 and, on level par, looks likely to make the cut, while Michael Hoey was one under through 11 and two under for the tournament.
At the other end of the scale, Peter Lawrie will have the weekend off after a 75 left him 10 over, while Shane Lowry and Gary Murphy went in the same direction after both shot 72s and finished five and seven over respectively.
Chris Wood, third in the Open two weeks ago, had a hat-trick of birdies from the 11th on the way to a 70 to move up to three under.
Andrew Coltart and Alastair Forsyth had both withdrawn after rounds of 79 and 81 respectively.
