MAYO strolled to an easy win in the second round of the Connacht FBD League at Kiltimagh yesterday. Both sides fielded experimental teams for this encounter which attracted a crowd of almost 2,000 on a dull and overcast day.
Mayo had the game wrapped up by the interval when they led by 17 to nil. Clare had been extremely unlucky to have a penalty awarded against them three minutes before half time after a defender made an excellent goal line save. Maurice Sheridan shot low and hard to the net.
Mayo added two further points on the resumption, but the Banner County produced some good football which resulted in points from Kieran Considine (2), Aidan O'Keeffe, Martin Keavy, Francis McInerney and Michael Hynes. However, a goal from Diarmuid Byrne two minutes from the end left Mayo comfortable winners.
