Tullamore golf club will revive memories of 50 years ago when they celebrate the victory of their esteemed honorary member Kitty McCann in the British Women's Amateur Open Championship. The golden jubilee celebration will be held on Friday, June 15th in Tullamore..

Kitty won the British Championship in June 1951 when she beat a former winner, Bunty Stephens 4 and 3 in the final at Broadstone, Kent. The British Championship was one of the two majors, the other being the US championship. Jean Donald, later to be a successful professional, was a beaten semi-finalist in 1952. McCann had won the Irish Championship in 1949 and was a winner again 12 years later in 1961. She played golf for Ireland through the 1940s, 1950s and 1960s non-playing captain and a selector for many years. She was selected on the Curtis Cup team in 1952 but was unable to travel due to illness. In 1958 McCann led Tullamore to their first Women's Senior Cup title.
