When you think that they collected almost £17 million from the transfers of Emile Heskey and Neil Lennon alone, £10,000 is probably to Leicester City what 14p is to you and me - not a trifficly useful amount. That, then, is why no tears were shed at Filbert Street on Saturday when 19-year-old Damien Delaney (right) came on as a sub for the Premiership side in their 3-0 FA Cup win over York. When they signed the left-footer from Cork City back in November for £50,000, part of the deal was a promise of another £10,000 if he played for the first team. He has now, so Cork City are £10,000 the richer . . . but you have to wonder: why do National League clubs sell so cheap?

Delaney became the 34th Irish player to appear for an English Premiership club this season - John McGrath was the 33rd when he made his debut for Aston Villa against Chelsea on New Year's Day. Few, however, have made quite the same rousing impact as Cardonagh-born Gary Doherty, who scored in Spurs' win over Newcastle at the start of the week and then snatched a 92nd-minute winner against Leyton Orient in the Cup on Saturday.
