In fairness, though, his boss, Roddy Collins, had a pre-match hunch that his third division side would struggle against their second division opponents ("I wouldn't be surprised if Tranmere batter us"), but he could have done without young Will McDonagh, ex-Bohs, picking up two yellow cards on his debut.

Remember John Sheridan? Well, he scored from one of his curly free-kicks for Oldham in their cup win over Hull on Saturday. Thank you to Sky Sports' Jeff Stelling for informing us that the combined age of Oldham's midfield (including John and his little brother Darren) was 140, 37 years of which were contributed by John. Looks like Oldham's youth policy needs some fine tuning.
