McGinley good value

Ireland's Paul McGinley looks decent value this week for the Novotel Perrier Open de France at Villette de Anthon in Lyon

Ireland's Paul McGinley looks decent value this week for the Novotel Perrier Open de France at Villette de Anthon in Lyon. He has played well in several tournaments this season without being able to take the next step into the winner's circle.

McGinley has a good record in France, winning his first ever professional tournament in Paris (1991), the European Under-25 Championship. He also shot one of the low rounds of his career, 63, at the 1996 French Open, albeit at a different course. He needs to enjoy a little better fortune at the weekend, particularly on "moving day" (Saturday). He is available at an attractive 25 to 1.

Jose Maria Olazabal and Angel Cabrera are joint favourites at 7 to 1 in what is pretty weak field. For those looking at an outsider, the highly rated young South African Trevor Immelman represents good each way value at 40 to 1.

The Australians believe they have a monopoly on the next generation of stars but the South Africans are optimistic that Immelman can follow in the footsteps of Ernie Els.
