It seems ridiculous to tout an Irish winner of the Murphy's Irish Open which begins on Thursday but this year's venue, Fota Island, will hold fond memories for two of the home challenge.

Padraig Harrington won an Irish Amateur Open Strokeplay title at the Cork venue and while the layout has been much changed under the guidance of Jeff Howes, the Stackstown golfer still enjoys the course.

Paul McGinley has also won over the beautifully appointed parkland course and he will enjoy this week's challenge. McGinley represents the better value at 33 to 1 and given his desire to try and grab a Ryder Cup place, a victory this week would be just what the doctor ordered.

Colin Montgomerie is the 8 to 1 favourite - his chances rest on form with the putter.
