IRELAND'S Sonia McGinn beat old rival Eleanor Middlemiss to win the Glasgow Open badminton championship singles title yesterday. McGinn's deliberate, unhurried play unsettled the Scot, and, despite losing the first game 6-11, she recovered to take the title 11-5, 11-3.
It was sweet revenge for McGinn who, with Keelan Fox, had lost out to Middlemiss and Haldane in the doubles semi-final, 6-15, 2-15.
In the men's doubles, Mark Peard and Donal O'Halloran from Dublin lost out in the semi-final to eventual champions Craig Robertson and Alastair Gall from Scotland, 15-11 15-7.
