Cavan 0-15 Meath 1-6:Cavan added to Meath's recent miseries when dominating most of this local derby clash at Navan's Páirc Tailteann on Saturday night.
After a wasteful start during which they hit five wides, Cavan found their shooting range and hit a string of well-taken scores.
Wing-forward Cian Mackey’s mazy runs led to a number of scores and midfielder Gearoid McKiernan shot three points from play as the visitors eased into a 0-10 to 0-1 interval lead. Michael Newman registered Meath’s only first-half score from a free.
Royals’ boss Mick O’Dowd sent on three substitutes, including long-term injury victim Kevin Reilly, on the restart and Newman netted following a Graham Reilly delivery inside a minute.
However, five points was as close as the home side got as Cavan held their nerve, scores from Martin Reilly and Jack Brady steadying the Cavan ship. The visitors finished with 14 men as Niall McDermott got two yellow cards.
