NEWS ROUND-UP:DONEGAL HAVE been dealt a serious injury blow following confirmation that centre back Leo McLoone suffered a leg break in a club game yesterday afternoon.
The injury means that the Naomh Conaill, Glenties man is now a serious doubt to be fit in time for Donegal’s Ulster senior football championship opener against Antrim on May 15th.
The 21-year-old suffered the horrific injury 10 minutes from the end of Naomh Conaill’s Comortas Peile na Gaeltachta match against Termon yesterday, when he fell awkwardly as he went to pick up the ball.
Meanwhile, Galway registered their first win in the 2011 women’s football league yesterday, beating fierce rivals Mayo, 1-14 to 1-11, in Ballindine. Cora Staunton scored 1-8 of the home side’s total.
Right before the final whistle, Staunton beat two defenders and squared the ball perfectly for Ciara Hanahoe in front of the net – but the advancing Galway keeper Tina Hayes averted the danger.
There was a big shock in Division Two where Dublin were beaten 2-7 to 1-8 by Cavan in Maghera.
