Limerick jockey J T McNamara landed his first Down Royal double when he was successful on Monty's Pass and Alotawanna yesterday.
Monty's Pass took the feature race, the Mirror Handicap Chase, for Co Waterford trainer, Jimmy Mangan. Monty's Pass saw off the attentions of Stag Party two fences from home and ran on well to win by four-and-a-half lengths.
Mangan said: New owner, Belfast businessman Michael Futter persuaded me to come north and the move has paid off. Monty's Pass has now won twice." Alotawanna was an easy winner of the novice chase pounding his way clear to win by a distance from Farnando.
There were two northern successes early on the card when Ross Moff took the opening maiden hurdle by 14 lengths from Christy Senior. The winner is trained by George Stewart who said that Ross Moff may run again at Fairyhouse in the New Year.
Southsea Native ridden by trainer Willie Patton's son, Robert, lifted the INH Stallion Owners Maiden Hurdle by five lengths from Miaqualine.
Tipperary trainer, Tom Hogan, was on the mark in the Duke of York Opportunity Handicap Hurdle when County Captain, the 5-2 favourite, followed up on his recent Thurles success with a six lengths victory over Veneguera.
