Meath 1-14 Tipperary 2-8: Meath, under the new Páirc Tailteann lights, were rattled by Tipperary on Saturday evening, who led 2-3 to 0-8 at half-time.
Leading 0-6 to 0-1 early on in the game, Meath were stunned by goals, from Eamon Hanrahan and Philip Austin.
The home side levelled with points from Stephen Bray and Niall McLoughlin, but Hanrahan edged Tipp back in front.
Graham Geraghty regained Meath's lead with a goal as Tipperary battled to the finish.
