The Sunday paper was commissioning a series of player profiles from the Press Association, which supplies much of the football coverage to just about all of the papers (including this one) in Britain and Ireland.

PA reporters were a little upset to see that they were going to have ask every player they interviewed for the series how much they earn. When they saw, however, that one of the other questions was "When and how did you lose your virginity?" there was widespread dismay and negotiations to have the questionnaire revised have started.

At the Currant Bun, meanwhile, Dave Clement, the sub-editor who dreamt up the headline "Swedes 2 Turnips 1" was retiring this week and, as is traditional in these situations, there was a bit of a whip around.
