ALL-IRELAND CLUB JHC FINAL Meelin 0-12 John Lockes 1-5:PLAYING A fast brand of hurling helped Cork side Meelin land the All-Ireland junior club title at Croke Park yesterday at John Lockes' (Kilkenny) expense.
The Cork club had too much for the opponents as they secured a famous win.
Owen McGrath (Lockes) and Eamonn Brosnan (Meelin) led the early scoring charge but Ger Shelly grabbed a goal to give John Lockes a slender (1-1 to 0-3) lead after ten minutes.
A Brosnan free soon levelled matters before he chipped in with further frees to give his side the advantage at the interval (0-7 to 1-2).
Meelin maintained their grip on the game in the second half and soon added to their lead courtesy of John Forrest’s point. Although the Lockes hung on in there, they will rue a total of 12 wides.
Man of the match Brosnan pointed from a penalty to put five between the teams (0-11 to 1-3). Owen McGrath and Simon Burke hit points as Lockes fought hard but Brendan O’Sullivan’s late point sealed the Cork side’s title.
