Leinster Senior 55 Overs League: The Leinster Senior 55 Overs League continues apace over the weekend and Section A leadersMerrion look likely to consolidate their position in their home match against Malahide on Saturday.
Malahide are second last in the table, ahead of Clontarf, whose season of woe may well continue as they face third-placed Pembroke at home at Castle Avenue today before taking on CYM at Terenure tomorrow.
The next few weeks will be severely testing for Malahide and Clontarf, with the dreaded relegation drop hanging over both clubs.
Phoenix, runners-up to Merrion in Section A and with a game in hand, face a potentially tough engagement against North County at Balrothery today. North County have won three of their six outings to date, and have three matches to spare, so to speak.
The promotion race in Section B is exceptionally close. Munster Reds head the table with 130 points from seven matches, with Railway Union in hot pursuit, on 100 points, with a game in hand.
Munster Reds have home advantage as they take on The Hills at The Mardyke today and will be encouraged by Railway Union's nine-wicket defeat of the Fingal club last week-end. Tomorrow, Railway are away to Old Belvedere, languishing at the bottom of the table with only one win from nine matches, and the Sandymount club should add to their Section B points tally.
