Golf:World number two Phil Mickelson has suspended the remainder of his 2009 tour schedule indefinitely after his wife Amy was diagnosed with breast cancer.

Amy is expected to undergo surgery within the next two weeks, Mickelson’s management company said in a statement today.

The lefthander was scheduled to play in the HP Byron Nelson Championship which gets under way and defend his title at the Colonial tournament in Fort Worth, Texas, the following week.

Mickelson’s status for the US Open next month at New York’s Bethpage State Park wasn’t disclosed.
