Tyrone qualified to meet Antrim in the Ulster minor football championship final when they coasted to victory over Derry at Clones yesterday. It was a competent, unspectacular display by the holders, who proved much more efficient at converting creativity into scores.

Captain for the day, Cormac McAnallen, led by example with three excellent first-half points, one a free from almost 50 metres, and Aidan Lynch and Kevin Hughes chipped in with scores Derry lacked organisation and penetration, scoring just once in the opening 20 minutes, but finishing the half strongly with points from Patrick Bradley, Jonathan Niblock and Peter O'Kane to trail by 0-8 to 0-4 at the break.

Tyrone increased their lead to eight points by the end of the third quarter, thanks chiefly to the midfield dominance of McAnallen and Hughes, with Ryan O'Neill, substitute Eoin Mullingan and Lynch adding to their tally.
