Terenure College have captured Irish and Lions number eight Eric Miller, following his decision to take up a two-year Irish international contract and play for Ulster following his move home from Leicester. It is believed that Terenure will meet a transfer fee of around Stg£25,000.

Miller (22), who has been capped seven times for Ireland, will make his AIL debut for his new club in the first round of matches away to Blackrock on December 5th. He will probably assist Terenure in the interim as well, beginning with their Leinster club championship campaign, as he is deemed ineligible for the European Cup. But Ulster, for whom Miller is expected to make his debut against Connacht on Friday week, may appeal his case to the ERC Ltd on the basis that he has not played for anyone else this season.

Billy Lavery, the chairman of the IRFU's contracts committee, yesterday confirmed that Miller had agreed to be contracted to the union until June 2000. Should Miller return to England at a future date, Leicester will have first option on the player, in return for having agreed to a transfer fee which was half Miller's valuation had he been transferred to another English club.

Edinburgh Reivers have cited Toulouse's international second row forward Hughes Miorin following an alleged incident in their European Cup Pool C match at Easter Road on Sunday.

Reivers' Scottish international prop Matt Proudfoot was forced to spend a night in the Western General Hospital, Edinburgh, after being stretchered off in the 35th minute with a neck injury.

"We have taken our time to study carefully the video evidence - both our own and that of the BBC - and feel that foul play occurred," said Reivers chief executive Nick Oswald last night.
