GIANT KILLERS Chesterfield and Wrexham have been paired in the FA Cup quarter finals, guaranteeing a side from outside the top two divisions in the semi finals for just the seventh time in the cup's history.
The two second division clubs will meet at Chesterfield's Saltergate ground on either March 8th or March 9th.
Chesterfield disposed of Nottingham Forest 1-0 on Saturday, while Wrexham followed up their win at West Ham by seeing off big spending Birmingham at St Andrews.
Said Chesterfield manager John Duncan: "It is a fantastic draw for both sides but, obviously, better for us as we are at home. It's a great advertisement for the second division. . . I'm sure whichever of us reaches the semi finals, the other club will wish them all the best.
"There is no disappointment in the fact we haven't got one of the big clubs left in. At this stage of the competition, you are just delighted your name is in the hat."
Wrexham captain Tony Humes, who scored their second goal against Birmingham, on Saturday, said: "It gives us a good chance of reaching the semi finals but I'm sure Chesterfield will think of it in the same way.
The draw, made by Peter Osgood and Gordon Banks, threw up only one other definite tie, between third favourites Sheffield Wednesday, 1-0 winners at Bradford yesterday, and second favourites Wimbledon at Hillsborough.
Favourites Chelsea will face a difficult test at Portsmouth, conquerors of Leeds, if they can dispose of Leicester in a Stamford Bridge replay after surrendering a two goal lead at Filbert Street in yesterday's 2-2 draw.
Coventry, so nearly ousted from the competition by non league Woking, can look forward to a home quarter final against Middlesbrough if they triumph in their fifth round encounter with Derby.
