Celebrations went on long into the night at Moate golf club on Sunday when, after 10 years of endeavour, they finally clinched the Leinster Junior Cup title. Moate have appeared in 10 of the last 11 Leinster finals without success and Eamonn Coughlan was wondering when he was going to achieve his ambition. Coughlan has played in 10 of the 11 teams which appeared in the finals while Liam Galvin and Kieran Heavin have been panel members in all 11. On Sunday, however, there was no denying Moate their success when they overcame Milltown 4-1 in the final. Karl Fitzsimons beat Peter Pigot on the 18th while Thomas Fox and Thomas Higgins were each 4 and 3 winners over Stephen McCarthy and Vincent Downes respectively, to give Moate the necessary three points. Coughlan's match with Terry Buckley and Dominick Fitzpatrick's with Chris Collins were called in. Fitzpatrick was making his eighth appearance in the final.
