DCU 1-6 Garda College 0-8: The only goal of the game from substitute Liam Moffat after 38 minutes paved the way for Dublin City University to take a one-point win over Garda College in Templemore yesterday.

Although played in atrocious weather conditions the game was a tightly contested and an entertaining affair with never more than a kick of a ball separating the sides.

With scores at a premium, DCU led by 0-3 to 0-1 after 25 minutes, with Mayo star Conor Mortimer, Seanie Johnston, and Bernard Brogan getting their names on the scoresheet.

However, Garda College, who had failed to score since the first minute when Michael O'Shea had the opening point of the game, came good in the last four minutes of the half with scores from Brian Coen, Michael O'Shea, and Cormac Bane, to lead by the minimum margin at the interval, 0-4 to 0-3.

The Tipperary-based college looked set to take control when David Marshall and Pádraig Mullarkey increased their lead within six minutes of the restart.

However, once the all-important goal arrived in the 38th minute from Moffat, after good approach work by another substitute Kevin Devine, the game swung in DCU's direction.

Eoin Lennon and Brendan Egan gave them a great boost with splendid scores.

They had to fight hard for their victory as the supreme efforts of the Garda College yielded points from Pat Kelly and David Marshall that left only a score separating the sides at the end of the period that saw almost four minutes of injury-time played.
