MONACO'S march for a French league and UEFA Cup double continues tomorrow in their choice match of the two semi finals at home to Inter Milan.

Monaco have already seen off German clubs Borussia Moenchengladbach and SV Hamburg plus England's Newcastle and a win over Inter would yet further enhance their prestige on the continent.

Spain's Tenerife hosts Schalke 04 in the Canary Islands in the other first leg game.

In a surprise selection, Bruno Irles is set to be called up in Monaco's central defence alongside Gilles Grimandi to replace suspended captain Franck Dumas.

Irles is set to face an old teammate in Youri Djorkaeff when they both played in the Monaco reserves.

For Djorkaeff, one of France's few successes at last year's Euro 96, playing at the Louis II stadium will be familiar.

He spent three seasons in the principality before moving to Paris Saint Germain and then joining Inter Milan in the summer.

But Djorkaeff might not find it easy against a Monaco side on a real high.

Their 2-0 win at home to Lille on Friday put them 12 points, clear by the end of the weekend games in France and they are virtual certainties to take the title barring an absolute collapse.

However, Inter could only draw 0-0 at Fiorentina at the weekend with key players not at their best. They lie third in the league, seven points behind Juventus and two points behind Parma.

Djorkaeff was clearly tired at the end and Chile's Ivan Zamorano was not on his best form, which does not augur well for Inter's troubled coach Roy Hodgson.

Adding to his problems, Hodgson, who will be returning to England to coach Blackburn Rovers at the end of the season, is not highly thought of by fans at the Milan club.

But he said: "It's only to be expected when a coach leaves a club. We played badly but we have three days to correct our errors in Florence and to try and find solutions to our team work problems."

Meanwhile, Tenerife lost 3-1 to Celta Vigo at the weekend in their build-up to the game.

Tenerife's German coach Jupp Heynckes partly blamed defeat on the absence of Yugoslavian international Slavisa Jokanovic who has an ankle injury. However, he expected Jokanovic to be back in time against Schalke 04.

Heynckes expects other players absent against Celta Vigo to return, including South Africa's Motaung, Bolivia's Pablo Paz and former Barcelona striker Meho Kodro of Bosnia.

Schalke 04 will be without both Youri Mulder and Martin Max. Both left the field in Saturday's Bundesliga match against Karlsruhe in the 13th minute, first Max after falling awkwardly in a shoulder to shoulder tussle.

He tore tendons in his left ankle as he fell and will be absent for between four and eight months.

Seconds later Mulder was hit by a barging tackle from defender Burkhard Reich as he was crossing the ball and snapped ligaments in his left knee.

Schalke's offensive strength has virtually been taken away as Mulder and Max together have scored 18 of Schalke's 31 goals so far this season.

Borussia Dortmund, who entertain Manchester United on Wednesday, defeated Bochum 2-0 on Saturday to move up to second place in the Bundesliga, both goals coming from the Swiss striker Stephane Chapuisat.

In Italy, Juventus inflicted one of the most humiliating defeats in AC Milan's history in Milan last night, when the European champions thrashed Arrigo Sacchi's side 6-1 at the San Siro.

Vladimir Jugovic and Christian Vieri scored two each, Frenchman Zinedine Zidane converted a penalty and Nicola Amoruso also got on the scoresheet as Juventus made mincemeat of Italy's reigning champions.

Marco Simone got the consolation goal for Milan, volleying home substitute Roberto Baggio's corner, but Juventus' victory is destined to go down in the annals of Italian football.

The result left Juventus looking like Serie A champions, while Milan, if they can cope with the psychological damage, can still hope for a UEFA Cup place,
