MUNSTER SENIOR CUP: CBC Cork 10 Castletroy 10:CHRISTIAN BROTHERS Cork and Castletroy underlined their credentials yesterday with this first round match-up at Woodleigh Park in Cork.

Both teams advance safely through to the next round, and Christians will do so as winners of the tie by virtue of having scored the first try, a new ruling introduced to speed up the early stages of the competition.

That try, in fact, didn’t arrive until five minutes into stoppage time when Brendan Monohan crossed the line to give CBC an 8-3 lead, which was pushed out to 10-3 courtesy of Dave O’Riordan’s conversion.

However, Castletroy hit back with a try in the last play of the game, when William Shanahan touched down in the corner to set up a dramatic finale.

From the touchline, Barry Neville landed an exquisite conversion to secure his school a share of the spoils, if not a home quarter-final.
