Monsieur Bond stands out

Monsieur Bond has been a revelation this season and today at Royal Ascot is no time to desert the northern flying machine. Bryan Smart's flashy chestnut had some cracking form to his name last year - he was arguably very unlucky not to snatch a place in Refuse To Bend's 2,000 Guineas.

But he has surpassed himself this term with a couple of high-class performances after another unlucky-in-running effort at Doncaster on his reappearance. The Danehill Dancer colt could hardly have been more impressive in winning the Gladness Stakes at the Curragh, and repeated the dose in what was a hot renewal of the Duke Of York Stakes on the Knavesmire.

Today's Golden Jubilee Stakes has been the target ever since and he comes here at the top of his game. A draw in stall 10 should not be too much of a hindrance as he is sure to be prominent from the off and should be able to grab a good position. Monsieur Bond must go very close granted the requisite luck.

Dazzling Bay gets the nod in the Wokingham Stakes. This is one of the biggest betting heats of the entire meeting and a maximum field of 30 is guaranteed for what is a real cavalry charge.

Tim Easterby knows what is required in this - his Fayr Jag dead-heated last year - and Dazzling Bay comes here on the back of a smart effort at York last time. He finished third but would have won if not for swerving to his right close home.

He is drawn 25, which means he will have the far rail to run against and any worries about him going right again can therefore be forgotten. He would have had a penalty had he won at York, so his antics were in fact a blessing in disguise. Fast ground suits, too, so everything looks right for a really big run.
