Athletics: US sprinter Tim Montgomery insists he will not return the prize money being demanded by the IAAF in the wake of his two-year doping ban. "Hell no," Montgomery said in a telephone call from his residence in Hampton, Virginia.
"If I had tested positive, I would give every penny back."
The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) suspended the former 100 metres world record holder on the basis of the testimony of fellow American sprinter Kelli White and evidence obtained during the Balco laboratory doping scandal.
Montgomery, who subsequently announced his retirement yesterday, denies taking performance-enhancing drugs. However, CAS said its three-member arbitration panel had found "strong, indeed uncontroverted, evidence" that Montgomery and US sprinter Chryste Gaines, who was also suspended, had used illegal substances.
