Golf:Back-to-back bogeys dented Colin Montgomerie's attempt to climb back into contention at the Spanish Open in Barcelona today. The Scot had been only two off the lead when he went into the lake and double-bogeyed the 16th in yesterday's opening round.
Setting off with a birdie this morning Montgomerie was three under par and only three behind his Scottish compatriot Scott Jamieson, but he then dropped strokes at the 369-yard 12th and short 13th to be only one under par.
Rookie Jamieson, appearing in only his 11th European Tour event, then resumed with a bogey of his own and slipped back alongside France’s Romain Wattel and Spaniard Pablo Larrazabal, playing on his home El Prat course.
England’s Steve Webster and Indian Jeev Milkha Singh had also been five under overnight, but each had an early bogey.
Peter Lawrie, on four under after a first round 68, does not get his second round underway until after lunch while Shane Lowry (three under) is also among the later starters.
