Kilkenny City - 3 Athlone Town - 0 It took 192 minutes to produce the first goal in this FAI Cup clash. The teams drew 0-0 on Friday, and at Buckley Park last night Adrian Mooney broke the deadlock in the 12th minute of extra-time.
Once Kilkenny found their touch they were flying. Two minutes later a careless clearance from the Athlone defence presented Stephen Murphy with a chance which he lashed to the net from 22 yards.
The home side rounded off the scoring in the 120th minute when Alan O'Connor converted a penalty. In this incident Athlone's Adrian Carberry was sent off.
