Twenty-five handicapper Mairead Moore wrote herself into the history books of Abbeyleix Golf Club last weekend when she won Elizabeth O'Hara's Captain's Prize.

It was the first ever Lady Captain's Prize to be played over the new 18-hole design at Abbeyleix. And it was consistency which proved the key to Moore's victory, which proved to be by six shots in the end.

The competition was played over two rounds and the first round saw some hot scoring from Maura Connolly on 68, with Moore following on 69 and Kathleen Kavanagh on a solid 70.

But then in the second round Moore was able to produce another consistent round of 69 to give her an aggregate total of 138 to take Elizabeth O'Hara's prize by six shots from Anne Marie Keating, who also shot 69 for 144. Thirteen handicapper Kathleen Kavanagh took the gross prize with 172.
