Moorefield - 1-3 Sarsfields - 0-7:KILDARE/SF Final: Millenium year champions Moorefield reclaimed the Kildare SFC title with a comfortable win over their Newbridge neighbours Sarsfields yesterday at St Conleth's Park, Newbridge.
It was their first title success over Sarsfields, who beat Moorefield in last year's final.
Sarsfields played without injured midfielder Dermot Earley, but took a two-point lead at the start of a closely contested opening half.
Moorefield started slowly and missed several scoring chances before Mark Sexton finally scored in the ninth minute.
But Sarsfields never lost the lead, at least for the first half. Their top scorer Padraig Brennan scored three of their first-half scores as they led 0-4 to 0-3 at half-time.
The turning point arrived seconds after the restart when Moorefield were awarded a penalty for a foul on Michael Ryan.
Kildare star Ronan Sweeney slotted the ball past Sarsfields keeper Gavin Slicker and, when the game's top scorer Patrick Murray added another point, Moorefield led by three.
Sarsfields spent the remainder of the half chasing the game and, though they managed to come to within a point of the winners thanks to points from Brennan and Morgan O'Sullivan, Moorefield held on to their advantage with Paddy Murray getting the last two scores.
