Hurling Munster Cup/Limerick 1-18 Waterford 1-9: Limerick got their season off to a flying start by scoring a decisive win over Waterford at Walsh Park yesterday.
Both sides fielded a number of newcomers, the most impressive of which was Waterford half -forward Conor Carey, who finished with a tally of 1-3, the goal a fine effort from a Gearóid O'Connor pass on 53 minutes.
The home side had little else to enthuse about, however, as they were second best against a Limerick outfit for whom Niall Moran scored 1-5. His goal was scored after 25 minutes.
Limerick rattled over a succession of points in the second half and ran out easy winners, with Carey's goal little more than a consolation for Waterford.
University of Limerick were victorious over Cork Institute of Technology by 0-15 to 1-6 at Claughhaun yesterday with John Heenahan hitting seven points for the Limerick students. Stephen O'Sullivan scored the Cork side's goal from a penalty.
