NUI Maynooth 2-14 IT Tallaght 0-03:A well-taken goal from Mayo senior Andy Moran two minutes after half-time was the decisive score as IT Sligo advanced to the next round of the Sigerson Cup.
Moran's goal helped Sligo turn around a 0-7 to 0-6 interval deficit. Sligo, winners in 2004 and 2005, laid the foundation for their success in the first half when they played against the strong and freezing wind.
Moran kicked two points and Michael Doherty added two frees and one from play to give Sligo a great chance, although Doherty had an 11th-minute penalty superbly saved by Declan McCarthy.
Rising Kerry star Paddy Curran did most to give Tralee a platform, but while Graham O'Connell and Brian Scanlon picked off two points apiece, a one-point interval lead never looked enough.
Corner-forward Barry Regan set up Moran for the goal, and two points from Alan Costello pushed them further in front.
