After the second day of disappointment by Irish sailors, Mark Mansfield and David O'Brien are facing a Herculean task in moving their overall standing from second last to a top-10 final result over the next five days. In the Finn single-hander, David Burrows fared slightly better, but has still to break into the top-10 from his position of 12th overall out of 25 boats.

Even at this stage, the performance by these two boats is not living up to expectations. Pre-event form hinted at real potential and possibly an outside chance at a medal.

Europe sailor Maria Coleman, currently seventh, enjoyed a second rest day yesterday.
