Champions League/Group H: If Jose Mourinho could have chosen a home game in which Chelsea would share a goalless draw, this would surely have been it.
With his team already qualified as group winners, last night mattered little. The manager even had the bonus of giving players a break and bringing back Didier Drogba for half an hour.
Drogba might have won the game in the 80th minute when put through by Eidur Gudjohnsen but showed his rustiness by hitting the legs of goalkeeper Lionel Letizi.
They had other openings, with Alexei Smertin doing well and Joe Cole having bright moments albeit taking the wrong option at times.
However they were up against opponents who were never going to throw caution to the wind, knowing a point would leave them needing a win at home to CSKA Moscow to progress.
Mateja Kezman and Cole combined to bring Chelsea two early openings in a first half short on chances. First Cole could not quite get a touch to Kezman's cross after a good move also involving Arjen Robben. Then Kezman shot wide after Cole had set him up.
Although Chelsea found it hard to make chances after their initial burst, they were in control of the game. The good work of Chelsea's midfield did much to stifle Paris, and Carlo Cudicini did not have to make a save before the interval.
Mourinho replaced Robben with Damien Duff at half-time in an effort to bring more cutting edge. But three openings went untaken early in the second half, with Cole not far from touching in a Frank Lampard free-kick.
