Rugby: Munster may be about to fill the overseas' void created by the departure of John Langford by signing Jim Williams, the 32-year-old ACT Brumbie and Wallaby back rower.

According to Australian sources, the World Cup winning back rower is one of several overseas players whom Munster are currently negotiating with.

Rugby: Clonakilty rounded off a fantastic season by winning the Heineken Munster Junior Cup for the first time with a deserved 17-6 victory over Cobh Pirates at Musgrave Park yesterday.

Scorers - Clonakilty: T Dillon three pens, drop-goal; N O'Sullivan try. Cobh Pirates: Mark Cronin two pens.

Rowing: Ferryth Colbert of UCC, the Cork sculling ladder representative, won the Guinness sculling challenge in Belfast last night. Colbert beat local man John Armstrong of Lady Victoria Boat Club by one length with James Morris of Commercial third. Offaly's Eimear Moran (17) had a good win by 1-1/4 lengths in the women's race. Jillian McCracken of Lagan scullers was second.

Basketball: Susan Moran was among the long list winners at the IBA's annual awards at the Shelbourne Hotel in Dublin last night. After picking up the top scorer award at last weekend's European Championship qualifiers in Limerick, Moran accepted the International Player of the Year Award - an honour the US-based student is almost certain to make her own in the years ahead.

Ken Lacey was awarded the men's award, while the double success of Thorn Killester earned them the men's Club of the Year award. The University of Limerick took the women's honour.

Gaelic Football: The venues for the semi-finals of the Ulster Senior Football championship were announced yesterday. Clones will host the first semi-final between Tyrone and the winners of Derry v Antrim. If Down beat Cavan tomorrow, then they will play Monaghan or Fermanagh in Casement Park, Belfast. If Cavan win, the game will be in Clones.

Aussie Rules: Tadhg Kennelly is due to make his senior league debut when he lines out as an interchange option for the Sydney Swans this weekend. The 19year-old former Kerry minor from the well-known GAA family in Listowel (father Tim and brother Noel both won All-Ireland senior football medals) has been in Australia for 12 months.
