Kilkenny City - 1 Longford Town - 0First Division side Kilkenny City pulled off a real smash-and-grab job when they dumped out Premier division side, Longford Town, from the FAI Cup. Kilkenny had just one shot on target during the opening half but they plundered a goal and then hung on for dear life.
Longford produced all the threatening football during the opening half hour. On 21 minutes Wes Byrne brought a terrific save from goalkeeper David O'Neill from a free-kick. Ten minutes later Ger Robinson and Sean Prunty worked a brilliant one-two to split open the defence, but again O'Neill saved.
Against the run of play Kilkenny grabbed a goal in the 26th minute through Stephen Murphy's 20-yard drive.
